Bill Mandell a founding member and co-managing partner of the firm. He has over 35 years of experience representing health systems, hospitals, medical and dental group practices, physicians, dentists, mental health/substance abuse practices, and other health care practitioners in regulatory transactional and corporate matters on all aspects of health and business law. His work on behalf of clients includes mergers and acquisitions, practice start-ups, transitions, buy-ins and buy-outs, hospital-physician relationships, reorganizations, joint ventures, risk management, professional contracts, regulatory compliance, health reform driven initiatives such as ACOs, concierge, direct primary care and other alternative medical delivery practices and medical staff and patient care matters. He also represents non-profit organizations, corporate executives, start-ups, and small and family businesses.
He has been listed as a "Massachusetts Super Lawyer" in health law for over the past 11 years in the field of health law by the Super Lawyers legal directory that lists the top 5% of attorneys in each state, as recognized by their peers and professional achievements. For the past 3 years, Bill has been listed by Boston Magazine as a Top Lawyer in Health Care Law. Bill was also named in the 25th edition of The Best Lawyers in America in the practice area of Health Care Law. Best Lawyers® identifies the top 5% of private practice attorneys nationwide, as determined by peer review.
Bill is also the author of several publications including, Managing Relationships with Industry A Physician’s Compliance Manual (Academic Press/Elsevier, 2008); Chapter on “Physicians” from the Massachusetts Health and Hospital Law Manual (MCLE 2008, updated 2017) and Making Sense of the Stark Law: Compliance for the Medical Practice, published by the Massachusetts Medical Society.
He has served as co-chair of the Boston Bar Association Health Law Section and is a frequent panelist and speaker in continuing education programs for the bar and other professions associations, including Massachusetts Medical Society, Yankee Dental Conference and Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education. He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association. He has served on the adjunct faculty at Suffolk University Law School.
Bill is a 1982 graduate Cum Laude of Brandeis University and he received his juris doctor from Boston College Law School in 1986. Prior to the formation of Pierce & Mandell, P.C. in 1995, he practiced health and business law at two large law firms and also served at the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit in the Massachusetts Attorney General's office.
His volunteer associations include the Advisory Board of the Owen M. Kupferschmid Holocaust/Human Rights Project of Boston College Law School, and he is the President of the Eddie & Alyce Mandell Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc., which awards annual college scholarships to deserving Boston Public School graduates. He currently serves on the national Board of UAspire, and has previously served on several other non-profit organization boards.
In his spare time Bill trains for and runs half marathons. So far, he has completed half marathons in 4 different states with more to come.

Pierce & Mandell, P.C. Dental and Business Lawyers, Bill Mandell, Hannah Schindler Spinelli and Julie Niejadlik, will be serving on the faculty of the 2024 Yankee Dental Conference, scheduled for January 25 - 27, 2024.
They are presenting a course on Legal Issues for Practice Transitions and Start-Ups, Thursday, January 25 from 2 to 4pm. The course covers the major events in the professional life of a dental practice, including the establishment or purchase of the practice, securing an associate, becoming or adding a partner in a practice, and practice sales and retirements.
